I have a dream.

Well, I suppose dream isn't quite the right word. More of an idea.

I want to make a movie. But not just any movie, the best movie. From the best movie maker. I want to remake the classic "Reservoir Dogs", by the great Quentin Tarantino. Here's the kicker:

I have no money. Nor a camera. Nor any form of income or capital. Throw in the fact that I'm not even seventeen, and I've got an uphill battle. The only thing that could make it worse would be a lawsuit. That would be rather...fun.

But I'm not going to let it discourage me. That's the last thing I need.

What I do have, is a great group of friends. And a want to do this. It would definitely be a pretty satisfying way to spend another summer of unemployment. Buy a camera on credit and return it, "My Date With Drew" style, spend a few bucks on corn syrup and Goodwill black suits, and have the best labor possible: my cheap (free) friends. Sets will be easy: my basement. So no warehouse. Rent is expensive. We might just shoot the damn thing guerrilla-style.

I figure, QT is cool enough; he might not sue me, and maybe, in a dream, even contact me back for this "love letter". This will be word-for-word. Not quite shot for shot, because of slight budget restrictions. I've already got the script typed up; that took about 8 hours with Windows Media Player, Open Office, and a little bit of alt-tab. Or about 7000 alt-tabs.

With a little luck, and a ton of hard work, I will have a finished movie. I'm not too big on copyright law, so a ton of luck will get me a Hollywood contact, and not a lawsuit. Luck out the wazoo, and probably a ton of ass kissing, will get me an outlet, so you can see the movie.

That's the dream. For somebody outside this suburb to see Reservoir Dogs, directed by one certain youngster. Tedums the Precious. That's my name. And with luck, the name on the credits in some grindhouse theater near you.

Production starts June 2009. Be there, or be square.

  1. Why don't you just write your OWN movie.

  2. Sigh. And here it starts. But it is a good question.

I figure, most bands start out as cover bands. Why can't filmmakers do the same? This way, I can get some chops as a director, while showing my sincere appreciation for the art.

Plus, I couldn't write a story to save my life. Honesty right there.

  3. Generally film makers start of with short films, albeit, they are often terrible. This trial and error is how you "get some chops" as you say.

Leave Reservoir Dogs alone. Seriously. It's nothing against you, it's just that there is no possible way for it to end well.

If you insist upon a remake, pick something that YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE you can improve in some way shape of form.

  4. You do have a point there. I'll be honest, I have no belief that I will even come close to improving, or even matching, the quality of the original. But I want to do this anyway. Sorry, I really can't explain it.
